New Study on the State of Digitalization of SME (IMC Austria)
Arthur D. Little Austria, the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and the Austrian Professional Association of Management Consultancy and Information Technology (UBIT; IMC Austria) in cooperation with Hutchison Drei Austria conducted a study on digitalisation standards of Austria’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SME).
The key findings are that GDPR was the greatest driver for digitization in the past year, Digitalization nevertheless is seen as one of the main challenges for the future and as a main strategic element in the Austrian Industry. Nevertheless there exists a significant need for business consultancy among small and medium-sized enterprises in order to support and enhance their digital transformation. On a four level index progressing from digital newcomer, digitally aware, digitally oriented to digital champion most SME still reside on the level of digital awareness, whilst only 3 % view their business models as already fully digitally oriented. Together with IMC Austria, the Austrian government is promoting the evolution of digital business within SME through further funding for specialised consulting services.
